Capturing Heritage in Osaka
Our recent collaboration brought together an international team of passionate craftspeople and style devotees in Osaka, where heritage brands Barnstormers and R.C.T. came to life through the lens.
At the heart of this shoot were Koen and Robin Meijerink of Robin Denim, who traveled from the Netherlands to capture the essence of these storied Japanese brands. Robin, known throughout the denim community for his authentic appreciation of Japanese craftsmanship and heritage style, brought his signature eye for detail and atmosphere. Together with Koen, they created images that speak to the soul of both brands—moody, atmospheric, and deeply considered.
Our model and ivy style consultant, Benton Nilson, was instrumental in bringing the vision to life. With his deep knowledge of traditional American menswear and its Japanese interpretation, Benton embodied the cross-cultural conversation that defines both Barnstormers’ 1977 legacy and R.C.T.’s contemporary approach. His understanding of collar rolls, proper drape, and vintage authenticity ensured every frame captured the precise spirit we sought.
The locations themselves told their own stories. The Shibukawa Building, completed in 1927 with its striking Mayan and Incan-inspired Art Deco facade, provided a backdrop rich with history—a perfect complement to Barnstormers’ nearly fifty-year heritage. Later, we moved to a local cocktail bar, where intimate lighting and worn textures created the moody atmosphere that defines both brands’ aesthetic.
Monroe-san from Barnstormers and Watanabe-san from R.C.T. brought invaluable perspective throughout the day, ensuring every detail honored their brands’ stories. Their presence reminded us that these aren’t just clothes—they’re decades of dedication to craft, fit, and the subtle art of making garments that improve with age.
The result? Images that capture more than style—they capture a moment where Dutch creative vision, Japanese craftsmanship, American heritage, and Osaka’s historic atmosphere converged into something genuinely special.
